CWA Extends Solidarity, Support to Japanese Workers

CWA has joined with union leaders around the world in extending solidarity and support to Japanese workers and their families in the wake of the cataclysmic events that have devastated northeastern Japan, leaving millions homeless, and claiming at least 6,000 lives, with thousands more still missing.

Gearing up for the biggest nationwide mobilization of workers in decades, CWA, the union movement and a growing list of allies are planning activities and events for April 4, the day in 1968 that Martin Luther King was murdered while supporting striking sanitation workers in Memphis.

ver.di, the union representing more than 2 million workers in Germany, has contacted Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, urging him to ?choose a constructive path and stand by the commitments that have already been set out in legally-negotiated collective agreements.?

ver.di and CWA are working together and have formed TU, a joint global union representing T-Mobile workers in Germany and the U.S. German workers and citizens are appalled by Deutsche Telekom?s double standard: T-Mobile workers in Germany have full bargaining rights and workers? rights are respected by management, contrary to the fear and harassment workers face in the U.S.

Cohen Announces Nationwide Day of Action April 4

The voice of the labor movement and its allies will roar louder than ever on April 4, the anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., when "it will not be business as usual at workplaces and communities across this nation," CWA President Larry Cohen said Wednesday.
